Using Yoga for Anxiety Problems

Living with anxiety is no picnic in the park but with yoga for anxiety, this problem can be controlled.  In fact, in serious cases of anxiety, a person could be completely debilitated.  No matter the cause of anxiety or the length of time a person has experienced it, one of the most beneficial methods for relaxation is by using yoga for anxiety.  Yoga has been used for hundreds of years to treat a variety of health and mental issues and with great success.

For instance, one of the most popular types of yoga for anxiety is called Hatha.  This particular style originated in India but today, it is followed in countries around the world.  For Hatha yoga, the body is put into different positions, which are then held for several seconds.  The goal is to stretch ligaments and muscles, which ultimately allows the body to relax.  Hatha yoga also helps to encourage flexibility.  This style of yoga has been shown to promote healing to the mind, and body.

The concept of using yoga for anxiety is to create a balance between mind and body.  When faced with daily stressors on top of times of turmoil, the body tenses and the mind becomes clouded.  However, using any style of yoga would allow mind and body to form a perfect union.  In addition to using various positions in yoga, breathing is another important aspect.  Using proper breathing techniques, overall oneness, and wellness is achieved.  Interestingly, people living in the eastern region of India use yoga solely for exercise while those in the western region use yoga for meditation.

When you learn the meaning of “yoga”, it is easy to see why yoga for anxiety is so beneficial.  The name translates to the word “union” and then the style of yoga mentioned, Hatha comes from a word that means “sun and moon”, or “universe”.  This is why when using yoga for anxiety and other physical and psychological issues, the goal is to align the body with the mind.  Even people who have scoffed at yoga but tried it now swear it works.

According to ancient medicine, the body is comprised of seven power points known as “chakras”.  These power points provide the body with energy and strength.  However, when stressed or feeling anxious, the energy is drained and the body left feeling weak.  Along with this, the mind follows so eventually, you would be completely run down.  However, when using yoga for anxiety, there is an enlightening experience to the chakras.  After class, an overall sense of energy, strength, and relaxation is felt immediately.
