Don’t Give Up! Anxiety Solutions are Possible
Everyone experiences anxiety at one time or another and anxiety solutions can always be found. Perhaps as a child, a test at school caused anxiety or you have anxiety about visiting a doctor or dentist. This kind of anxiety is normal for all humans.
There are other times when anxiety doesn’t seem normal or your body and mind starts feeling anxious all of the time. This type of anxiety is most likely caused by an anxiety disorder. There are several kinds of anxiety disorders and each one has its own set of anxiety solutions.
Very often anxiety disorders are hereditary--they are passed down genetically from one generation to the next. These are illnesses. There is nothing you can do to stop the anxiety from happening in the first place but there are anxiety solutions which can help you control and live with the anxiety.
Anxiety as a mental illness can get to the point where it totally disrupts your life. Let’s take a look at an anxiety disorder and the anxiety solutions which can be developed:
Many people have anxiety because they have a panic disorder. A panic attack can occur at any time night or day, and you have no control over when. This also causes another level of anxiety because you worry about when or where the next panic attack might occur. The panic attack itself can have varying symptoms, such as sweating, dizziness, feeling flushed, being chilled, having shortness of breath, chest pain, or other similar experiences.
Often, someone having a panic attack thinks they are having a heart attack. It is very much like experiencing total fear and you can literally think you are going to die at that very moment. A panic attack can last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more. Sometimes a panic attack can be triggered by being confronted with something you fear. For instance, if you have a fear of heights, looking out the window from the top floor of a skyscraper could bring on a panic attack.
For other people, riding in an elevator can cause a panic attack or it can happen with an experience such as riding on a horse. Panic attacks can turn into severe panic disorders if they are taken to their extreme. For example, some people with anxiety can totally stop going outside all together. This is called agoraphobia. When anxiety gets to this stage, it is usually accompanied by depression and may cause many physical ailments as well.
Anxiety solutions can take the form of psychotherapy, usually a behavioral therapy and prescription medication. A behavioral approach slowly brings a person through the circumstances causing panic over and over until the trigger no longer causes anxiety. Medications can work well in the most severe cases.
On less severe cases of anxiety, counseling can help as can a variety of breathing and visual exercises. Learning how to reduce stress can help you deal with many types of anxiety and panic behavior.
Other anxiety disorders include obsessive-compulsive disorder OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social phobias, etc. There is a phobia called generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) where a person can never relax and just getting up in the morning produces anxiety.
If you have any type of anxiety that is strong enough to affect your daily activities, it’s time to see a doctor and get advice on how to treat the problem. Anxiety solutions are always available even if your anxiety causes you to think that nothing can help you. Something as basic as eating healthy meals and getting enough sleep and exercise can help you start to deal with anxiety in a positive way.
